Church of St. Michael the Archangel and the Church of the Annunciation in the Trade Mart (Vitkoviy Lane) (Veliky Novgorod)

4 Bolshaya Moskovskaya Street, Veliky Novgorod.

To the southeast of Yaroslav's Court, close to the bank of the Volkhov River, two churches, the Church of St. Michael the Archangel and the Church of the Annunciation in the Trade Mart (Vitkoviy Lane), connected by a brick passage, are situated.

The Church of St. Michael the Archangel was built in 1300 to 1302 instead of the 12th-century wooden church in the Trade Mart. In 1454, the Church was reconstructed.

The brickwork of the lower part of the walls has been preserved since the 14th and 15th centuries; the upper part refers to the 19th century. The northern gallery was constructed in the 16th century.

The Church was reconstructed in 1958 to 1960.

There is no a memorial plaque on the Church of the Annunciation, however according to some information sources the Church of the Annunciation in Vitkoviy Lane was built in 1362 and reconstructed in 1466. The Church has two floors, no columns, one apse and one dome. The central part is not direct-axis extended as usually but from north to south.

The both churches were severely damaged during World War II and later reconstructed. The Church of St. Michael the Archangel was used as a warehouse.
