Church of The twelve Apostles on Propastekh (Veliky Novgorod)

4A Desyatinnaya Street, Veliky Novgorod.

The Church of the Apostles was first mentioned in 1230, when a common grave was arranged nearby to remember and bury those who died from an epidemic.

The now-existing Church of the Twelve Apostles on Propostekh was built in 1454 and 1455. The construction was ordered by Archbishop Euthymius and replaced the previous buildings constructed in 1358.

It is a cross-domed church with one apse and a single dome with eight slopes. The monument's foundation sits on clay soil. A two-tiered forechurch, the upper tier of which was used as a belfry, is the most distinct feature of the Church.

The "on Propastekh" in the title was given to the Church because of its proximity to the ancient 13th-century cemetery situated just to the south of the Church.

The forechurch and the belfry have not survived.
