The first monument to Alexander Pushkin in Kiev was set in 1899, the year of the 100th anniversary of the poet's birth. It was installed at the expense of teachers and students of the 5th Kiev Pechersk Gymnasium.

The bust monument to Alexander Pushkin was brought from St. Petersburg.

The sculptor is R. R. Bach. The bust is cast in bronze. The pedestal is made of basalt and marble. The bust was made by Sclavoni.

There is a sign on the pedestal: "To Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin from the Kiev Pechersk Gymnasium. 1799. 26th May, 1899".
