Yaltinskaya Cave (Yalta)

Ay-Petri Mountain, Yalta.

The Yaltinskaya Cave is situated upon Mount Ay-Petri and 500 metres (546.81 yards) away from the upper station of the ropeway. It was accidentally discovered in 1997.

Here is the story of the discovery of the Cave. A boy was throwing stones into the rock splits. Shooting a stone into one of the splits he heard that the stone was falling for too long time. He came home and told about this fact to his father. The boy's father and his friends went there, climbed down and discovered a cave.

After the Yaltinskaya Cave was researched, it was closed. Later the entrance was blocked with heaps of rubbish.

On the 21st of July, 2007, 10 years after the Cave was discovered, the speleologists Vladimir Kievsky, Sergey Yeliseyenko and Ivan Bondar cleared and restored the entrance, laid a tourist route and made illumination at their own expenses. The Cave is 180 metres (196.85 yards) in length.

The Yaltinskaya Cave still has stalactites and stalagmites, dropstones and stone flowers.
