Uchan-Su Waterfall (Yalta)

The road to Mount Ay-Petri, Yalta.

The Crimean River Uchan-Su begins in limes under the cliff of the Ay-Petri yayla. It forms a waterfall of the same name of Uchan-Su at a height of 390 m (426.51 yd) above sea level.

Uchan-Su Waterfall is the highest (98.5 metres or 107.72 yards) and most spectacular one in Ukraine.

The Greeks named the waterfall as Cremasto Nero (Hanging Water); however the Turkomen gave it their own name of Uchan-Su or Flying Water.

Uchan-Su Waterfall is 4 km (2.49 miles) away from Yalta.

You can go upstairs from the viewing point to a cataract where the first waterfall cascade falls. A little house of diversion facility is built here and has a statue of eagle (griffon vulture) on its roof. Water flows into the Mogabinskoye Reservoir and is supplied to Yalta.

Three more small waterfalls are formed below Uchan-Su Waterfall at heights of 295 m (967.85 ft), 280 m (918.64 ft) and 270 m (885.83 ft).

During the very hard winters Uchan-Su Waterfall freezes up and makes an icefall.
