Church of the Ascension of Christ (Nizhny Lomov)

Ust-Karemsha (Karemsha) village, Nizhny Lomov.

A stone church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker (later renamed) with a side chapel dedicated to St. Mitrofan of Voronezh was built from 1870 to 1876 to the efforts of priest Pyotr Kamensky. In 1880, the Church was consecrated.

Since Karemsha settlement was included into Ust-Karemsha village, the Church parish, restored in 1991, was registered in the latter village but as the Church of the Ascension. The Church is placed near the road from Nizhny Lomov to Narovchat.

The Church's longitudinal composition is based on a combination of a quadrangle with a rectangular apse and a refectory and a bell tower equal in width. The quadrangle is crowned with five domes, octagonal drums of which are tented-roof. The bell tower is topped the same way. The Church's architecture features "Russian style".

The main decor elements include keel-shaped kokoshniks in the tented-roof base and keel-shaped archivots of window and door openings. The "broken" character of wall plastic is achieved by using of two shirinka bands and arch frieze encircling the whole building.
