Bell Tower of the Kazyonnaya Sloboda Church of the Beheading of John the Forerunner (Moscow)

50 Pokrovka Street, building 2, Moscow, Metro stations: "Kurskaya", "Chkalovskaya", "Krasnye Vorota".

The Church of the Beheading of John the Forerunner, in the Kazyonnaya Sloboda quarter, is first mentioned as being made of stone in 1620.

Side-altars of Saint Nicholas (first mentioned in 1722) and Dimitry of Rostov (first mentioned in 1760).

The refectory and the now-existing bell tower were constructed in 1770 to 1772.

The old church was disassembled in the 1790s, and a new church was constructed on its site. Consecrated on 25 August 1801. A good example of the Moscow Classicism, a large rotunda building featuring rectangular protrusions, which endowed it with a cross-like shape.

The church was destroyed in the second half of the 1930s. All what has been preserved is the stand-alone bell tower.
